Mayfair Animal Hospital

I first brought my dog to this vet due to an emergency appointment and my first interaction was great but since then it has been a headache to get answers or schedule appointments. I called the other morning due to my dogs labored breathing (after emailing, leaving voicemails and texting the doctor) and was given the option of “dropping my dog off” or gave me a list of local emergency locations to go to. Keep in mind my dog was prescribed medicine for hypothyroidism that they found during blood work and since taking the medicine she has been having labored breathing and side effects she never had until taking the medicine. The last time I tried to refilled the medicine I explained I would be traveling due to work / my family in IL needing me home for family reasons and they gave me a 10 day refill with no refill option. I then called back after not hearing from the vet or anyone in the office and I was placed on hold for 45 minutes without anyone picking up the phone. I then proceeded to call back and spoke to two other staff members who told me to come in after explaining my multiple phone calls. Once I came in imaging was done after the vet looking her over. Once the vet returned to speak with me I was told my dog had lung cancer and days to live and was asked if I wanted to put her down that day which I said no and asked if there were other options to look for which I was told no and that they could prescribe her a steroid to make her comfortable until I made a “decision” The next morning I requested imaging since they were never uploaded (they also say they close at 6 PM I proceeded to call twice at 5:30 and was routed to their voicemail) I took the images and proceeded to get a second opinion as well as texting a vet from out of state. I since then have an appointment with NC state for further testing thanks to an ER vet visit (which was cheaper and more comforting than Mayfair). But I also have a different diagnosis and putting my dog to sleep has not been an option presented to me once. I was also told my dog had a stage 4 out of 6 heart murmur which came from Mayfair after my visit today there has been NO signs or diagnosis of a heart murmur! The woman who answers the phone is beyond rude and harsh and leaves you feeling helpless. Very disappointed in this treatment. Especially when I am calling to see the vet I have been trying to speak with for over a month. I will say that Dr. Sanford is great when you can reach her or get an appointment with her. Just wish the rest of the staff was as understanding. The office manager Angela is comforting and was the one who guided me to come in when I had called 3 times after being put on hold. I can understand their office introduced a new software but the customer service / lack of care is shocking. If I could give a 0/10 I would. I understand new software/ packed appointments but as someone who is in this state living life alone and my girl is my best friend I am disappointed in how I have been treated and the misdiagnosis along with feeling like my only option was to put my dog to sleep. ALWAYS get a second opinion!

This place has a very unique atmosphere. By “unique,” I mean vaguely unsettling. The waiting room is decorated with AI-generated animal art that somehow makes you feel less like you’re at a veterinary hospital and more like you’ve wandered into a boomers facebook page. The facility itself could use a serious cleaning, and who I assume is the manager has perfected the art of being technically polite while making every interaction feel like you've just been scolded but you're not quite sure enough to say something about it. Overall, it’s an impressive combination of questionable cleanliness, over the top prices, strange decor, and customer service that was somewhere between "cold" and "am I in an episode of black mirror?" I came in worried about my pet. I left needing a HOT shower and an appointment with my therapist. Because google won't let me give 0 or negative stars, one star. The AI dogs on the walls were the friendliest part.

I have been taking my dogs and cats to Mayfair Animal Hospital in Cary for over 30 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr. Foster is very thorough, professional, and knowledgeable, and she always takes the time to answer all of my questions without making me feel rushed which is so important to me. She has compassion and empathy and goes the extra mile to help my pets. I also love the staff at Mayfair. They are all very supportive and friendly and make me feel welcome at the clinic. Highly recommend!

Great experiences! Warm, welcoming, high quality care from front desk to medical professionals to grooming! Love being a part of the Mayfair family :) Highly recommend for dogs and cats!

Too exspensive
