I stopped going after experiencing Dr. Ballester. She spoke to my dog instead of talking to me about his condition in a very condescending manner. My dog wasn’t paying the $600 bill, so I took that personally. Banfield Hospitals (any location) is better and cheaper. Their doctors actually talk TO YOU.

I have used Neuse River Animal Hospital multiple times for my four dogs, and unfortunately, my experiences have become increasingly frustrating. One ongoing concern has been the amount of costly testing that is frequently recommended. I completely understand the importance of appropriate diagnostics, but there have been several occasions when I questioned whether the recommended testing would actually change the treatment plan for my dog. As a pet owner with four animals, I want thoughtful, necessary care—not to feel as though additional testing is being added simply because it can be. My most recent experience was especially disappointing. I brought my dog, Reagan, in for a scheduled appointment and waited more than 30 minutes in an exam room without anyone coming in or giving me an update. I finally went to the front desk myself and was told the veterinarian was handling an emergency. I absolutely understand that emergencies happen and that an animal in crisis should take priority. My issue was not the delay—it was the complete lack of communication. No one came in to let me know there would be an extended wait, apologize for the delay, or give me any idea of when Reagan might be seen. After waiting another 15 minutes with still no update, I had to leave and return to work without my dog ever being examined. A simple conversation and basic communication would have made a tremendous difference. Unfortunately, between the repeated concerns about unnecessary costs and this most recent experience, I no longer feel confident bringing my dogs here for care.
