I truly cannot thank Dr. Camp and the entire team at Northwest Animal Hospital enough for going above and beyond for my pet chicken, Puddles. They got us in immediately and Dr. Camp even came in on her off day just to help us. The dignity, compassion, and kindness they showed both me and Puddles was truly above and beyond and helped ease the pain of losing a beloved pet. They gave me all the time I needed and let me comfort her the whole time, even helping me gather some feathers and foot prints for memories. They even comped the visit fee, which truly shows how much they care. Thank you Dr. Camp for the kindness you showed me and my girl and for being a community resource for us non-traditional pet parents. It will not be forgotten, and I will definitely be using and recommending Northwest Animal Hospital for any future animal needs. Rest in peace my sweet Pudds ❤️
After several visits to this veterinary office, I came away disappointed with my experience.
As a pet owner, I try to make carefully researched decisions about my dog's healthcare and prefer to discuss options, risks, and benefits before agreeing to treatments. During my visits, I expressed concerns about administering multiple vaccines and medications at the same time and asked about the possibility of spacing them out.
I felt that my concerns were often met in a condescending manner. Rather than feeling like I was having a collaborative discussion about my dog's care, I left with the impression that my questions and research were being dismissed. While I fully respect veterinary expertise, I did not feel my perspective as my dog's owner was given the same consideration.
When I later obtained my dog's medical records, I was surprised to see notes describing me as argumentative. That characterization did not reflect how I viewed our interactions. I was simply trying to ask questions, understand the recommendations being made, and advocate for what I believed was best for my dog.
Following a visit in which my dog received vaccines and flea medication, he became very ill within a couple of days, Thurs evening vaccines given, Sat evening my dog was incredibly sick, experiencing vomiting and bloody diarrhea, including blood in his vomit. Took him 1st thing Sunday morning. This required an emergency veterinary visit. When I contacted the office days later, I was told the timing made a reaction to the vaccines unlikely. However, I remained concerned because I had not introduced any other new medications, foods, or products during that period.
When I returned to discuss my dog's illness, I again raised concerns about whether the vaccines or medications could have contributed to his reaction. I was told that a vaccine-related reaction was unlikely due to the timing. Because of the severity of his symptoms, I asked whether an adverse event report could be submitted. Based on that conversation, I left with the understanding that the office did not believe the circumstances warranted such a report.
I was also advised that if my dog received the same vaccines in the future, I could consider giving Benadryl beforehand. I explained that I was not comfortable repeating the same vaccination approach after what had occurred and that I intended to be more cautious about future vaccinations and medications. While I understand that reasonable professionals may have different opinions, I would have appreciated a more open discussion of my concerns and a greater willingness to consider alternative approaches.
My purpose in sharing this review is not to assign blame, but to explain why I ultimately lost confidence in the communication and decision-making process. Pet owners should feel comfortable asking questions, discussing alternatives, and having their concerns heard and documented accurately.
While others may have had positive experiences, mine left me feeling unheard, dismissed, and frustrated.
I found a new vet and they are wonderful and also supportive of any holistic future needs and printes out who is in the area.
