I wasn’t originally going to leave a review, but my puppy’s experience at the vet today, more than two months after her spay surgery, changed my mind.
The rescue I adopted my puppy from uses this clinic for their spay/neuter and microchip procedures. I personally transported my dog to and from the clinic, which is about two and a half hours from my home.
Before her surgery, my puppy had always loved going to the vet. She loves people and other animals and had never had an issue with anyone handling her or trimming her nails. I understand that some dogs can develop anxiety around veterinary offices after having surgery because of the unfamiliar and stressful experience. However, there were things I noticed after picking her up that really concerned me.
When I picked her up after her spay, I noticed that every single one of her nails, except her dew claws, had been cut into the quick. I could visibly see dried blood on her nails, and as she started waking up more from the anesthesia, I could tell that her paws were bothering her.
Today, more than two months later, I took her to the vet to have her nails trimmed again. I expected it to go normally like it always had before her surgery, but she would not let anyone touch her paws, let alone bring nail clippers near them. It was extremely upsetting to see how fearful she had become of something that had never bothered her before. Seeing that reaction made me even more disappointed knowing how painful having nearly every nail cut too short must have been for her.
There was also an issue with her microchip. I was originally told that I would receive an email within 10 days with the information needed to register her microchip. When I later followed up with the clinic because I never received anything, I was told that my dog had never been microchipped. I contacted the rescue to find out what happened and was told that the clinic had forgotten to do it. Now my dog has to go through another procedure that should have already been completed while she was there for her spay.
I also found the environment at the front desk to be very overstimulating and stressful. Even the tone and communication from the staff made me feel more uneasy on top of the nerves I was already experiencing with my dog.
Between her nails being cut into the quick, her completely different reaction to having her paws handled afterward, the forgotten microchip, and my experience with the environment at the clinic, I left feeling extremely disappointed in the care she received. Unfortunately, these experiences have made me question the level of care and attention given to my puppy while she was there.
